Appointment of Madam Josephine Moses Lado, a positive step toward an equal opportunity among citizens. *By Tong Deng October 07, 2009 Women in Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Western Bahr El Ghazal and Warrap and citizens of Aweil welcomes new developments in the state which promote equal opportunity among citizens, regardless of gender, race, or place of origin. They will continue to advocates the empowerment and inclusiveness of women in decision making. States’s women groups mentioned above are celebrating with alot of joyfulness over the recent appointment of a former Southern Sudan legislative Assembly member Hon. Josephine Moses Lado to be first ever woman Deputy Governor and Minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.
The overwhelming welcoming, swearing in celebrations on Monday October 05 was indeed disappointing to few men with anti women hangover who opposed a woman appointment. Some were arguing that she is not from Northern Bahr El Ghazal state by birth, other said why appointing a woman to senior position. They failed to understand two things: (1) marriage has no border (2) a resident citizen of the state for a certain period of years is qualify to contest for political position. That why we have the Dinka – Americans in this community. We have seen this move as positive in Sudan history that SPLM leadership is making change in the Sudanese male dominant society. This is a great effort worth encouragement to improve women live in our society. Congratulations to SPLM leadership under Salva Kiir Mayardit for recognizing the important role plays by women in our society. A society believed “a woman give birth to man but not allow by her son to lead”. Very interesting. Madam Josephine Moses Lado is originally from Central Equartoria state, marriage to Mr. William Ajal Deng Gai from Aweil South County in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state. She was representing 25% of her home marriage state in the government of Southern Sudan legislative Assembly in Juba. She was appointed by GOSS presidential decree on Saturday September 19, 2009 as Deputy Governor in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State. Her appointment is greatly welcome by Aweil Souh intellectuals and they encouraged her to to unite the people of Aweil South county. Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulates H. E Madam Josephine Moese Lado for her recent appointment. The author is an independent observer based in Aweil and he can be reached at tonganei@yahoo.com
