Essay Contests For Students  (United States) (69.37.169.164)
Students can enter an Essay Contest which involves writing about one of novelist-philosopher Ayn Rand's books. Two of the contests are for high school level, the third for college students. Cash prizes for first-place winners range between $2000 and $10,000 (US), and previous winning essays are posted on the site as well. The contest is offered annually. Details on how to proceed are published at the Ayn Rand Institute website: www.aynrand.org .

FYI, the study of Ayn Rand's philosophy and books seems to be an excellent foundation for economic and business majors, as well as anyone interested in the legal, artistic, and educational professions.

While visiting that site, also check out any of the instructive videos. At the very least, find and listen to the speech about Ayn Rand's Ideas - An Introduction. You have to become a "registered user" and log-on to the Registered User Page to view it (for free), but they are VERY informative. And who knows, you might win next year's prize!

Re:  (United States) (67.189.170.183)
FYI.

Former US Federal Reserve Chairman, Alan Greenspan, mentions his connections with Ayn Rand and especially with Atlas Shrugged, in his recently released memoire, The Age of Turbulence: Adventures in a New World. (Available from Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble Booksellers, and others)

"Greenspan, was converted to Objectivism by Ayn Rand. During the 1950s and '60s Greenspan was a proponent of her philosophy, writing articles for Objectivist newsletters and contributing several essays for Rand's 1966 book Capitalism: the Unknown Ideal including an essay supporting the gold standard. During the 1950s, Greenspan was one of the members of Ayn Rand's inner circle, the Ayn Rand Collective, who read Atlas Shrugged while it was being written."
