There are several non-governmental organisations operating in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State. They work in different development and humanitarian fields. Some of the NGOs include:

IRC (International Rescue Committee)
Activities: Health, environment health (water and sanitation), civil society development (CSD), child protection and youth

WFP (World Food Programme)
Activities: Providing food for education, food for work and food to internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees in general. It also conducts an Annual Needs assessment in the State.

Others include: International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), SWISS, MSF France, SNV, Tearfund, ARC, ACF- USA.

There are IDPs in the state but their numbers range from 6,000 to 7,000 in Apada and Maduany, Katajak in Aweil County. Most are the Dinkas and Luo who came from Khartoum and Abyei. They are being supported by a number of the INGOs and CBOs in the area through provision of water, sanitation and hygiene, health and shelter.
