Description

CAFOD Mission: to promote human development and social justice in witness to Christian Faith and gospel values.

Job Purpose

To support local partners to design, implement and monitor programme response based on identified local needs as part of CAFOD’s ‘Peace and Reconciliation’ programme in Sudan. The Programme Officer is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with partners, at both operational and strategic level, in line with the Country Strategy Paper and agreed Programmatic Frameworks, facilitating assessments, programme design, monitoring reviews and technical capacity building of partners as appropriate. In line with CAFOD’s values and working principles, the Programme Officer is responsible for carrying out the appraisal, monitoring and review of partner programmes, facilitating learning and best practice. The Programme Officer also has a responsibility to capture learning from their work and feed this learning back into the wider organisation.

This is a one year contract, including a 3-month probation period, and is renewable based on successful performance.

Qualifications

Person Specification

  • Minimum of 2 years experience working for an INGO in a similar role
  • Able to deliver work within the context of an agreed programme framework effectively using programme cycle management tools.
  • Able to work with and build capacity of local partner organisations.
  • Demonstrates practical understanding of Peace and Reconciliation issues in humanitarian and development context.
  • Demonstrates an awareness of gender issues in relation to humanitarian and development work.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of assessment and monitoring methodologies and tools.
  • Able to develop programme funding proposals.
  • Confident and proficient in preparing narrative reports for donors.
  • Confident and proficient in financial matters, including preparing and monitoring budgets.
  • Able to make effective use of IT for communications & management information.
  • Able to identify opportunities to collaborate with other agencies (local partners, UN agencies, CIDSE – Caritas agencies, etc.).
  • Able to communicate effectively in both English and Arabic (written and oral).
  • Able and willing to travel.
  • Experience of working with Church-based agencies is desirable.
